The Treasure of Another Crab, as the name implies, is a humorous and detailed world in which the sea is your oyster similar to your soul. A fork acts as a de facto sword, while several other leftovers from above, such as shot glasses, drink cans and more, serve as a shield. With a fork in his hand and a can on his back, Krill, a shy but calm hermit crab, heads to the water kingdom to find his favorite clam, which was stolen from him by a tax-collecting moneylender. What follows is an adventure that stands out for being a funny and brilliant forgiveness of the soul genre, otherwise dark and full of horror. However, the action doesn’t reach the same heights; although it’s unique and expansive in some ways, it too often feels too levitating, too inaccurate and too annoying, polluting a fun 15-hour trip across an ocean full of garbage.
The developer Aggro Crab skillfully leans on the premise of the game, and the results often made me laugh. Whether it was world jokes, real and man-made problems with the ocean, or simple puns (words like shell, carp, cod and more replace similar-sounding swear words from the real world), I was constantly smiling while interacting with the various ocean creatures. The solid voice acting and design also make every NPC and boss a pleasure.
This premise also extends to the action of the game, but it is less successful. It is thanks to Aggro Crab that the action progresses significantly with pronounced and eccentric mechanics and abilities. Instead of a standard weapon-based parade, you’ll have to hide in your grenade and jump right before an enemy strikes to stop yourself properly; defeating a large crustacean boss will give you a hammer claw-like special ability for large long-range strikes.; The “Umami” magic in each bowl manifests itself in interesting ways, such as a shot glass that shatters into fragments when striked, a bowling ball-like roll in a tennis ball bowl, or target carbonation bubbles that shoot out of a beverage can.
Most of my pleasure in the action was to see the “new – : the special Umami magic in a new shell, the new skill I acquired after defeating a big boss or the new stowaway accessory, which, for example, increases my vitality or defense. There’s no shortage of quirks in action, and there’s a respectable amount of deviations that deviate from what I normally expect from a kindred soul.
That is why it is a pity that the foundations of the struggle are so unstable. He is floating, probably on purpose, considering that Krill’s adventure takes place mainly underwater, but the compensation for this feeling is inaccuracy, which does not work with such a challenging game. The camera is also picky and at the same time makes me action several enemies who pushed me against a wall that does not give me a real view of what is happening. Critically, when I died in action, it generally felt less like something I could personally improve on, an important aspect of the genre, and more like the game had cheated me to death.
All of this is compounded by a story that starts off strong before working its way to a rushed ending, with my least favorite area and a bunch of bosses, each of whom felt it could have been the end of the game. It doesn’t help that several crashes and game errors in the last few hours have slowed down my progress here.
review of the Treasure of another crab Game Informer 7 10 aggro cartoon with crab soul
Although the struggle that lies between the useful and the irritating threatened my pleasure, I still found pleasure in the currents of another crab’s treasure. Krill’s reluctance to become a hero and his subsequent journey, messages about the perils corporations pose to our oceans, and ingenious twists of the soul-like formula provide a satisfying, if uneven and flawed, path through uncharted waters.
